SUMMARY:The impact of climate anxiety in family formation in Europe
DESCRIPTION:“There is an urgent need for further research into the emotional impact of climate change on children and young people.” \n\n\n\nTo actively engage with this issue\, the International Federation for Family Development (IFFD) is orchestrating a series of events aimed at soliciting the perspectives of youth from around the world. Recognizing that young people are the architects of their own future\, these initiatives empower them to learn\, deliberate\, and make decisions that will shape their destinies. It is our firm belief that by affording the youth a voice in shaping their world\, we nurture their passion for effecting positive change from a young age. This\, in turn\, contributes to the cultivation of future leaders who are committed to making a difference in our global society.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe conclusions and final recommendations of the event will be made public at the 2024 IFFD Briefing during the 62nd Session of the Commission For Social Development at the United Nations Headquarters in New York (5 to 14 February 2024). The Commission will also celebrate the thirtieth anniversary of the International Year of the Family. \n\n\nCALL FOR CONTRIBUTIONS AND WORKING METHOD\n\n\n1.- The call for groups of 4-8 young people or individuals aged 18-34 is now open to submit a proposal for a statement on one or several of the discussion points above. \n2.- Registration for each group member must be completed at this link before January 20th. \n3.- Participation in the event can be in person or online. \n4.- Each group will have the opportunity to present their statement at the event through the designated representative registered. \n5.- In case more than 8 groups complete their registration\, some of them can be asked to do a joint statement and geographical distribution will be prioritized. \nThe statements should be configured as advocacy plans\, including the following contents: \n1. Establish measurable objectives. \n2. Define key messages. \n3. Determine the communication activities to deliver key messages. \n4. Decide what resources are necessary to complete each activity. \n5. Establish a timeline and responsible party for each activity. \n6. Fix how to evaluate whether you have reached your objectives. \n\n\nDISCUSSION POINTS\n\n\n\n\n1.- Why are young people (18-34) more worried about climate change than adults aged 55 or older? \n2.- Why do one-third or more young people think a couple should consider climate change when deciding whether to have children? \n3.- How does having a child result in considerable emissions of CO2 per year? \n4.- Why have so many joined campaigns pledging to not have kids until the governments take more action to combat climate change? \n5.- How does climate change pose a risk to long-lasting mental health problems? \n6.- Can it be that young people are not having children for the simple reason of not wanting them? \n7.- Are young people too worried about the environment to have children or more worried about the environment after having children? \n8.- What are the ethical\, environmental\, livelihood\, and political considerations behind climate change concerns and reproductive decision-making? \n9.- Can the need for an economy less hostile to young families be the real reason behind blaming climate anxiety for falling birth rates? \n10.- Can children born today and in the future be disproportionately affected by climate change? \n11.- Are levels of eco-anxiety growing\, particularly among children and young people? \n12.- Will climate change affect physical health\, mental health\, and social relations? \n\n\nPROGRAM\n\n\n\n\n10.00 -13.00: LISZT INSTITUTE\n\n\n\n\nMeeting of participants to review the Discussion Points and agree on the conclusions \n\n\n\n\n15.00 -17.00: EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT\nWELCOMING REMARKS\n\nRoberto Ciambetti \nPresident of the Veneto Regional Council\nMember of the European Committee of the Regions\nCommission for Environment\, Climate Change and Energy\nand Commission for Natural Resources \n\n\nOPENING REMARKS\nKinga Joó \nMember of the European Economic and Social Committee\nInternational Advisor to the President of the\nNational Association of Large Families of Hungary\nPresident of the Social Responsibility Board at the\nNational Cooperation Fund of Hungary \n\n\nPRESENTATION OF YOUTH STATEMENTS\nAND INTERACTIVE DISCUSSION\n\n\n\n\nPoland\nNetherlands\nFrance\nSpain \n\n\nMODERATOR\n\nIgnacio Socías \nDirector of International Relations\nInternational Federation for Family Development \n\n\nKEYNOTE SPEECH\n\nEmmanuel Pont \nSociologist\nAuthor of ‘Faut-il arrêter de faire\ndes enfants pour sauver la planète?’ \n\n\nCLOSING REMARKS\n\nEdina Tóth \nMember of the European Parliament\nCommittee on the Environment\, Public Health and Food Safety\nand Subcommittee on Public Health \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n REGISTRATION

SUMMARY:Who wins the future: Companies and Communities Family-Friendly
DESCRIPTION:NAPLES (ITALY)\, OCTOBER 20\, 2023 – CHAMBER OF COMMERCE \nIn the Nando Rocco Hall of the Palazzo della Borsa Merci\, from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM \n“WHO WINS THE FUTURE – COMPANIES AND COMMUNITIES FAMILY-FRIENDLY” \nDemographic decline\, an aging population\, brain drain\, and depopulation are affecting Campania\, putting the region’s economic development at risk. Businesses struggle to find qualified personnel\, and the decreasing size of families jeopardizes the existence and continuity of family businesses and artisans that have long characterized the region. \nTo retain young talent\, encourage the formation of new families\, and attract families with children who guarantee the future of communities\, it is essential to make the regions more attractive\, more people- and family-friendly. \nCompanies are also called upon to participate in creating a more favorable environment\, both in the workplace and within the community\, in line with the European Community’s guidelines\, which require companies to provide a sustainability social report based on ESG criteria (environment\, social\, governance). This will become mandatory from 2025 for companies with over 250 employees and is poised to become a common practice for all companies seeking financing from banks and investors. This demonstrates their positive social impact on the community and territory through social projects\, corporate welfare policies\, gender equality\, and work-life balance. \nWith the conference “Who Wins the Future: Family-Friendly Companies and Communities\,” we aim to launch the development of a “family-friendly community” that can respond to the challenges of demographic decline and sustainability. \n“The future will be won” by the municipalities that can best meet the needs of their citizens\, creating the conditions for a better quality of life.\n“The future will be won” by those who listen and address the demands of women who do not want to give up motherhood and a career.\n“The future will be won” by companies that offer their employees a work and life style that is attentive to their needs and\, together with municipalities\, build a “family-friendly” community.\n“Winning the future” is possible\, as demonstrated by the experiences of female entrepreneurs who have anticipated the European Commission’s guidelines through their specific sensibilities\, creating a family-friendly environment within their own companies and in line with ESG criteria. The municipalities that choose to work for the well-being and quality of life of young people\, working women\, and families will win the future\, as demonstrated by the experiences of the certified “Family in Italy” municipalities and members of the European Network of Family-Friendly Communities. \nAll stakeholders – families\, companies\, administrations – are called upon to forge a territorial pact focused on the well-being of families and a new way of thinking about work\, time\, and life projects “family-friendly”. Because they will be the ones to win the future. \n  \nPROGRAM \nModerator: Diodato Pirone\, journalist \n9:00 AM – Welcome \n9:15 AM – GREETING FROM AUTHORITIES \n\nCiro Fiola\, President of the Naples Chamber of Commerce\nFabrizio Luongo\, Deputy Vice President of the Chamber of Commerce\n\n9:30 AM – INTRODUCTION \n9:35 AM – Alfredo Caltabiano\, President of the National Association of Large Families \nFamily: Problem or Resource? \n9:45 AM – Pasquale Antonio Riccio\, President of the Alfa Association \nYouth for the Region \n9:55 AM – Regina Maroncelli\, President of the European Confederation of Large Families (ELFAC) \nA Valuable Network for Europe \n10:15 AM – Video message from Eugenia Roccella\, Minister for Family\, Natality\, and Equal Opportunities \n10:30 AM – WHO WINS THE DEMOGRAPHIC CHALLENGE \n10:35 AM – Luciano Malfer\, Director of the Agency for Social Cohesion and Family of Trento \nThe Trentino Experience: From “Family” Communities to “Family Audit” \n10:50 AM – Alfredo de Massis\, University of Bolzano \nFamily Business \n11:00 AM – Carla Librera\, President of AIDDA Campania \nWomen Who Make a Difference: Female Entrepreneurship in Campania \n11:15 AM – BUSINESSES AND COMMUNITIES FOR FAMILIES\, Best Practices \nDiodato Pirone introduces: \n\n11:20 AM – Caterina Langella\n11:30 AM – Anna Galdieri\n11:40 AM – Paola Greco\, entrepreneur\n11:50 AM – Edi Cicchi\, Councillor for Social Policies\, Family\, Right to Housing\, Equal Opportunities\, and Civil Services of the Municipality of Perugia\n12:00 PM – Roberto del Grosso\, Mayor of Roccabascerana\, Val Caudina\n\nOn the Road to Certification \n12:10 PM – Raul Sanchez\, Secretary General of ELFAC \nThe European Network of Family-Friendly Communities and Partner Companies: For a Europe that Believes in Family \n12:20 PM – Luciano Luongo\, President of the Casartigiani Association Naples and Regional Federation of Casartigiani Campania \nRetaining Talent\, the Tradition of Artisans \n12:30 PM – The Chamber of Commerce and ELFAC Award Partnership Diplomas to Network European Partner Companies \n12:35 PM – Conclusions

SUMMARY:Trentino: 8th edition of the Family Districts Meeting
DESCRIPTION:The annual appointment of reflections and meetings between the family districts of Trentino will be held in the splendid setting of Riva del Garda. It begins with the testimonies of recent projects implemented by family districts such as “What a show! Families at the cinema”\, “I’m doing it hard!”\, “Sail Together” project. In the second session\, voice to generative welfare experts with speeches from the University of Florence\, the editorial staff of Il Sole 24 Ore and the Agency for Social Cohesion.  It closes with the testimony of the National Association of Hospitality Families and with the launch of the 2024 edition.  \nCollecting the legacy of each Meeting and relaunching the themes of the future is the challenge that the Agency for Social Cohesion sets in its annual planning. The continuous comparison with the territories and the consequent dialectic lays the foundations for creating the intervention priorities together with the coordination works that the Agency carries out. \nFor this reason\, the 8th Family District Meeting is concentrated between a dialogue with the territorial experiences of the Alto Garda District\, protagonist of this edition\, and the research and theoretical actions carried out by universities and professionals. \nThe goal is to encourage policies aimed at promoting the family\, enhancing its dynamic and proactive role in the growth of territorial\, economic and social well-being. \nIn the Lake Garda scenario\, we will hear topics related to generative communication\, the quality of life indices created for years by il Sole 24 Ore as well as a snapshot of the current effectiveness and impact of the Districts. A particular focus will be on the experiences made in the nearby regions and the new actions put in place by the Autonomous Province of Trento. \nPROGRAM (in Italian)\n\nREGISTRATION

SUMMARY:CONFERENCE : The European Care Strategy: Responding to challenges faced by women in times of (post-)pandemic?
DESCRIPTION:The Commission of the Bishops’ Conferences of the European Union (COMECE) and the Federation of Catholic Family Associations in Europe (FAFCE) jointly organise a conference to exchange on the concrete experience of women after these times of pandemic. \nThe pandemic affected Europeans in all areas of their life: access to education\, work\, family\, social life\, transportation\, leisure\, etc. The most striking impact of successive lockdowns have been the emergence of new forms of work arrangements\, often blurring the frontier between work and family space. \nThe European Commission published in September its European Care Strategy\, as as one answer to the challenges women face in their everyday life. \nEchoing to this Strategy\, and in light of FAFCE recent Board Resolution on “Family unpaid care work: the heart of intergenerational solidarity”\, this event aims to share the reality of women and mothers at the European level. \n\n\n\n\n\nCLICK HERE TO REGISTER (Registration are open until the 28th of November 2022)\n\n\n\n\nPROGRAMME\nWelcoming address\n(10.00 – 10.05)\nFr. Manuel Barrios Prieto\, COMECE Secretary General\n\nIntroduction to EU Social policies in times of the pandemic and beyond \n(10.05– 10.10)\nNicolas Schmit\, Commissioner for Jobs and Social Rights (video message)\n\nChallenges faced by women in times of lockdowns\n(10.10 – 10.25)\nDolores Sanchez\, Holy See\, Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development\n\nWomen poverty resulting from job insecurity and motherhood pay gap\n(10.25 – 10.40)\n Dobrochna Bach-Golecka\, European law Professor\, University of Warsaw\n\nRoundtable\nWomen as care and essential workers during the time of pandemic. SUMMARY:Trento Family Festival 2022: The centrality of policies on family well-being for the socio-economic development of the territory.
DESCRIPTION:Autonomous Province of Trento (Italy)\nFestival of the family – 11th edition\n“Social cohesion\, territorial welfare and quality of life. The centrality of policies on family well-being for the socio-economic development of the territory. “\nTrento\, 28 November – 2 December 2022 \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe 2022 Family Festival is dedicated to deepening the connections existing between social cohesion policies and those for the promotion of family well-being within the current global context characterized by exceptional events and profound transformations. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe health emergency caused by the Covid-19 pandemic\, the humanitarian emergency and the energy emergency produced by the conflict in Ukraine are upsetting the known socio-economic assets and causing serious consequences for the population. \nOne thing is certain: overcoming the pandemic\, energy and military crisis cannot translate into a revival of the previous development model\, which no longer exists. These deep and unimaginable crises make it necessary to redefine development policies through the elaboration of new visions of the future with long-term strategies that place the person\, the family and social cohesion at the center. \nPromotion policies must be implemented aimed at making communities less vulnerable\, more capable of answering the questions of their members and of preventing / combating all forms of exclusion and inequality in access to essential services. \n\n\nFundamental elements that characterize and qualify the levels of social cohesion of a territory are the quality of social relations\, economic well-being\, equal opportunities\, the level of education and culture\, the spread of sporting practice\, social inclusion\, non-discrimination\, attention to the environment\, trust. Within this mix of factors generating social cohesion\, policies on family well-being enter fully. \nThe Festival intends to promote the scientific debate with the main institutions and organizations that have developed knowledge and skills on the connections existing between social cohesion policies and family policy: a week of appointments\, conferences and seminars to give voice to the cohesion policies activated in regional\, national and European level by increasing knowledge and facilitating the exchange of good practices. \n\nFull program Festival 2022
