The municipality of Ponta Delgada, with a total area of 231.89 km2, is located in the extreme southwest of the island of São Miguel.
The surface of this municipality is very mountainous, culminating in the mass of Sete cidades, with 856 meters.
The climate in the municipality is maritime and mild, it can be observed in weak thermal amplitudes, with the average temperatures of oscilltion statistics between 14º and 25º.
There are 24 small villages in Ponta Delgada, the largest area and population of all 19 municipalities in the Azores archipelago.
According to the data obtained in the 2011, the total registration was 68,809 inhabitants, that has 28% of the population of the Azores.
