The municipality of Piatra Neamt joins the conversation on Large Family Card

Romanian Large Families Association (ASFANU) took part in 1uniFEST by Itsy Bitsy, the largest Children’s Day festival in Bucharest, Romania where hundreds of families wete welcomed to association interactive stand.

Throughout the day, children and parents participated in creative workshops, storytelling sessions, family games and educational activities, all designed to encourage quality family time, creativity and cooperation.

For ASFANU, participating in public family events is an important part of its mission. Beyond advocacy and public policy, is the believe that building strong communities starts by creating opportunities for families to meet, connect and feel supported. These events give the opportunity to meet new families, strengthen community and promote a positive image of large families in Romanian society.

The event was made possible thanks to the dedication of ASFANU volunteers, who welcomed visitors, coordinated activities and shared the values of the association with hundreds of families throughout the day.

Piatra Neamt and the Large Family Card

Another Romanian city has started the conversation about introducing a Large Family Card, while a new local community of large families is beginning to take shape.

On 9 June 2026, ASFANU representatives Georgiana Dumitru and Ioana Ștefan—both mothers of four children—met with the Mayor and the Deputy Mayor of Piatra Neamt to present the benefits of the Large Family Card and discuss European good practices for supporting families with three or more children.

Located in north-eastern Romania, Piatra Neamt is a city of approximately 80,000 inhabitants and has become the latest municipality to explore policies that recognise the contribution of large families and improve their access to local services, culture, sports and leisure activities.

Beyond the dialogue with local authorities, this initiative has inspired local parents to become actively involved. A new ASFANU community is now emerging in Piatra Neamt, bringing together families who want to work collectively to improve the quality of life for large families in their city.

Through local partnerships and community engagement, ASFANU aims to encourage municipalities across Romania to recognise the contribution of large families and develop family-friendly policies that improve their quality of life.
