The measure is intended for families residing in the province of Trento in which, starting from January 1, 2026, a third child is born or adopted. The management and payment of the allowance are entrusted to the Provincial Agency for Assistance and Supplementary Welfare (PAT).
A structural intervention to support the birth rate accompanied by an incentive aimed at getting mothers into work. These are the cornerstones of the new birth allowance for third children, a measure effective from January 1, 2026, which strengthens provincial policies to combat the declining birth rate and support families, approved on Friday, December 19, 2025, by the Provincial Council. In addition to a fixed amount, the allowance includes a bonus component linked to mothers returning to or remaining in the labor market.
The measure
The measure is intended for families residing in the province of Trento in which, as of January 1, 2026, a third child is born or adopted. The allowance is granted for a maximum period of ten years from the birth or adoption of the third child. It provides for a fixed amount differentiated according to the economic and financial situation of the household, determined using the ICEF Family indicator.
There are three bands:
1) for households with an ICEF of up to 0.40, the maximum amount granted is €48,000, paid in monthly installments of €400 until the child reaches the age of ten;
2) for households with an ICEF above 0.40 and up to 0.70, the maximum amount is €30,000, paid in monthly installments of €250;
3) for households with an ICEF above 0.70 or without an ICEF certificate, the maximum amount is also €30,000, paid in monthly installments of €250.
The application for the fixed amount of the birth allowance must be submitted by the mother, who has parental authority, within 90 days of the birth or adoption of the child through the patronage bodies present in the province. The conditions and requirements for access to the measure are declared in the application as existing on the date of birth.
In addition to the fixed amount, there is a bonus of €200 per month for mothers who, from the third year of their third child’s life, return to or remain in the labor market, including by starting their own business. The bonus is paid annually to applicants until the third child reaches the age of ten, provided that they can demonstrate that they have worked for at least 180 days in the year prior to the date of application, even if not continuously. The first application for the bonus portion of the birth allowance is submitted through patronage institutions in the province.
