Romania: Large Families Association holds Strategic Planning Meeting to strengthen support for Large Families

The Romanian Association of Large Families (ASFANU) held a three-day strategic planning meeting from January 30 to February 1 2026 aimed at improving how the organization structures works to better support families raising three or more children.

The working session took place in the city of Brasov and focused on defining clearer priorities, strengthening internal coordination, and ensuring that assistance offered to large families becomes more consistent and predictable.

The meeting was organized within the project “From Voice to Action – Large Families in Well-Being,” implemented through the #CrestemONGuri program, part of În Stare de Bine, supported by Kaufland Romania. The initiative created a dedicated framework for reflection and organizational development, allowing ASFANU volunteers to step back from day-to-day responsibilities and concentrate on short and mid-term strategy.

Sixteen ASFANU volunteers from Bucharest, Brașov, and Cluj took part in the sessions. Together, they are parents of 44 children, bringing direct experience of the realities and challenges faced by large families. Their perspective shaped discussions focused on practical solutions, advocacy priorities, and ways to strengthen support networks for parents.

The strategic process was facilitated by consultant Cătălin Dinu from the Foundation for the Development of Civil Society, who guided participants through an analysis of the organization’s current functioning. The sessions examined existing strengths, identified areas needing adjustment, and outlined steps for sustainable development.

The conversations focused on the everyday realities of families and the shared values that unite ASFANU’s community. From this foundation, participants defined priority directions for the coming period, including the continuation of ongoing initiatives, more consistent dialogue with public authorities, and the development of stable, long-term support mechanisms for large families.

For a volunteer-driven organization as it is ASFANU, strategic planning is essential, as it ensures that limited time, energy, and resources are directed where they can create the greatest and most sustainable impact.
