Croatia: Presentation of the Results of the International Research of the GGP-Generations & Gender Program

The Generations and Gender Program (GGP) is an international social science research infrastructure that provides high-quality and timely data to researchers and other stakeholders interested in solving current demographic and social challenges.

On March 19, 2024 the presentation of the results of the international research GGP-Generations & Gender Program in the Republic of Croatia was held in the National and University Library in Zagreb.

The institutions that worked on the survey in the Republic of Croatia are the Central State Office for Demography and Youth, IPSOS, the Faculty of Economics in Zagreb and GGP Central Hub. Over the course of seven months, more than 6,000 respondents answered questions related to demography, fertility, household, generations, life history, well-being, work, income, and of all the participating countries, Croatia had the highest response rate. In some countries, including Croatia, there is a lack of quality data for analyzing the causes and consequences of demographic changes. Challenges such as low fertility, aging population and emigration clearly point to the need for such research, and data from the GGP is crucial for understanding and addressing social, demographic, economic and political changes.

This research should be the trigger for some demographic measures in the Republic of Croatia, because the information obtained from this research is of exceptional quality and will more effectively facilitate dealing with challenges that the Republic of Croatia, as well as other countries throughout Europe are facing.

On behalf of Croatian Large Families Association “Obitelji 3plus“, Ana Bedeković, head of relations with members of the Association, participated in the presentation.
