Job Shadowing: Germany Meets Portugal

A Successful Exchange on Elite Sports in Large Families. From November 14th to 17th 2024, a delegation of the German Large Families Association (KRFD) traveled to Lisbon, Portugal, for an inspiring and fruitful job-shadowing exchange with the Portuguese Large Family Association (APFN)

The focus of this visit was the promotion of sports within large families – a topic that resonates deeply with the unique challenges and opportunities faced by our members. This exchange marked a significant milestone as a premiere collaboration between our association and our Portuguese partners.

The warm and enthusiastic hospitality of our hosts set the tone for a productive and unforgettable experience. Over several packed days, we shared best practices, discussed policy approaches, and explored creative ways to support families balancing the demands of sports and family life.

A highlight of the program was the opportunity to meet top-level athletes, coaches, and sports administrators.

Their insights into fostering excellence in sports while maintaining strong family connections were both motivating and enlightening. We also had the chance to visit sports facilities, engage in meaningful discussions with local policymakers, and enjoy the rich Portuguese culture beyond the usual tourist trails.

This experience underscored the power of European cooperation. By coming together, we were able to learn from one another, build lasting connections, and strengthen our shared commitment to supporting large families across borders.

We are deeply grateful to our Portuguese partners for their exceptional generosity and dedication to making this exchange a success. This collaboration not only broadened our horizons but also reinforced the importance of international solidarity in advancing the well-being of large families.

We look forward to future opportunities to work together and to build on the valuable ideas and friendships forged during this remarkable visit. We are deeply thankful to the support by Portuguese secretary general Mrs Ana Cid and the Portuguese board.

Together, we truly live the European spirit!
