Our associate organization sent a letter to the City of Zagreb with a proposal to enable free public transport or at least a significant discount for children from families with three or more children on public transport services.
From Obitelji 3plus:
“Large families face many financial challenges, especially when it comes to the cost of education and transportation for multiple children. Given the importance of accessible and safe public transportation for children’s education and activities, we believe that approving free transportation or specific benefits for families with three or more children would be a significant step towards relieving the family budget.
Specifically, our proposal includes:
- Free public transport for children from families with three or more children until they finish school
- Alternatively, if the same is impossible to achieve at the moment, we suggest introducing a discount in the amount of 50% or more, so that the transport costs are more acceptable.
The City thanked us for the submitted proposal, informed us that actions are underway to amend the Decision on Social Welfare, which include improving the conditions for exercising the right to free transportation for children, and referred us to a public consultation when the Proposal for Amendments will be submitted for public consultation.
We are monitoring the public consultation and will comment on the same when it is available to the public.”
