The Croatian Large Families Association Obitelji 3plus, has been actively advocating for better rights and living conditions for families in Croatia for the sixth year
Many requests are found in press releases, letters and materials that we delivered to those in power and those in charge. Some of the measures they proposed were also taken up by some political options, and more and more often we hear announcements of benefits for multi-member families in the Croatian area, which we consider a success and a way for the voice and needs of multi-member families to find their way into the public space and find their way to decisions and laws.
Here is what we stand for in favor of families, especially families with three or more children:
- the right to work half-time until the youngest child reaches the age of 8, with compensation (salary) from the state for the other half of the working time
- a fully subsidized kindergarten for all children in Croatia – arranged in the same way as the financing of primary and secondary education and public universities
- universal child allowance for each child, with progressive growth as the number of children in the family grows (example of Latvia: if the family has one child = 25 EUR, two children = 50 EUR for each child, three children = 75 EUR for each child, four children = 100 EUR for each child).
- relief when buying a car for families with several children, subsidized car seats
- help with the purchase of each family property (as the family grows), exemption from value added tax or real estate transfer tax
- the possibility of paying grandparents the costs of looking after their grandchildren – if it is not possible to get a place in a crèche/kindergarten, after the end of maternity/parental leave
- establishment of family centers for family education and counseling,
We ask that allocations for families and children at the level of competent ministries be recognized as an investment and a pledge of Croatia’s future, and not as an expense!
