Spanish Large Families Federation asks to review criteria of social benefits to not penalise families with more children

The Spanish Federation of Large Families (FEFN) has recalled, on the occasion of Universal Children’s Day, that all boys and girls deserve the same rights and opportunities, regardless of the family in which they are born, and that being a large family does not It can be an obstacle to growing and developing on equal terms.

The FEFN has taken advantage of this celebration to denounce once again the discrimination suffered by large families when it comes to accessing social benefits, because of not all children are counted to calculate income thresholds, but only up to the third child.

“Being the 4th, 5th or 6th child means being invisible. These children have the same needs as the rest, they need food, education, clothing and footwear… they must have the same rights and opportunities,” says the FEFN. This organization calls for strengthening family support policies to improve outreach to children. Specifically, it demands a review of the income thresholds that currently exclude part of the children, and that the universal child benefit be approved now, for all families, as a measure that guarantees equal opportunities in childhood.
