Starting from the data published by the Friedrich Ebert Foundation and Syndex Romania for the year 2024, the large families association ASFANU has calculated the minimum monthly consumption basket for a decent livelihood for large families in Romania.
In Romania, a family with three children needs over 12,000 lei per month just for a decent living? And these expenses increase with the number of children:

- a family with 3 children – 12 314 lei (2,475 eur)
- a family with 4 children – 14 178 lei (2,850 eur)
- a family with 5 children – 16 042 lei (3,224 eur)
- a family with 6 children – 17 906 RON (3,600 eur)
- a family with 7 children – 19, 770 lei (3,974 eur)
- a family with 8 children – 21 634 lei (4,349 eur)
In 2024, the average salary in Romania is 100,260 lei per year (20,153 eur).
In the context of the accelerated growth of prices reduces the purchasing power and affects the living standards of families with 3 or more children in Romania, ASFANU requests urgent measures to support them.
These include the introduction of the Large Family Card, a mechanism to reduce essential costs through public and private partnerships, and policies to support the integration of parents from these families into the workplace.
ASFANU also draws attention to the negative impact of the new fiscal measures announced for 2025, such as increased salary contributions and taxation of the income of micro-enterprises and for profit, which will put an even greater pressure on large families, seriously affecting their financial stability and children’s welfare.
