Romania: Large Families Gather in Cluj-Napoca to Build Community and Inspire Change

On March 21, Romanian Large Families Association (ASFANU) organised the first meeting of large families in Cluj-Napoca, Romania’s second-largest city, which is home to 2,660 families raising three or more children. The gathering marked an important step toward building a stronger, more visible community of large families at the local level.

Families with three, four, and five children came together in Cluj-Napoca with a shared goal: to take concrete steps toward improving the lives of large families and strengthening their voice within the community. The meeting brought together parents determined not only to connect, but also to contribute to meaningful change through their experiences and involvement.

A total of 21 parents engaged in open discussions about the everyday realities of raising large families — from common challenges and unmet needs to the perceptions they hope to change through example. While time proved too short for all that needed to be said, one conclusion stood out clearly: the voice of large families in Cluj  Napoca deserves to be heard and recognized. The event also created a memorable experience for the 40 children who attended. Hosted by Wonderland Resort, a family park  from Cluj-Napoca, the day offered moments of discovery and joy — from meeting horses to exploring a dinosaur park and simply enjoying the freedom of being together with other children growing up in large families.

Romanian Large Families Association (ASFANU) meetings bring together families who choose to support one another and to actively contribute to building a more family-friendly society. By creating spaces for dialogue, connection, and shared experiences, such gatherings lay the foundation for stronger communities and lasting change for large families.
