The Portuguese Large Families Association (APFN) reached an important milestone in 2024 and now represents more than 12,600 large families.
Last year, the APFN welcomed 1,434 new families, which means that around 120 new families joined each month.
In the year in which it celebrated its 25th anniversary, the APFN continued its mission of representing and defending the interests of families with three or more children and sounded the alarm, with public interventions drawing the attention of public authorities to the challenges identified and the need for measures to address them.
Through its activities, the APFN aims to change mentalities and policies regarding the family and transform the current demographic winter scenario, which, if left unchanged, will continue to lead to Portugal’s economic and social unsustainability.
In this new year, despite the upcoming legislative elections, the APFN reiterates its commitment to families and is available to work with the new government and Parliament to clarify and build models that do not put large families at greater risk of poverty than they already are.
