Romania: Large Families Association talks about the costs of raising a child in the context of declining birth rates in Romania

Romania recorded in 2021 the lowest birth rate in the last hundred years, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics. This year, about 180,000 children were born compared to 200,000 in 2020. The death rate in 2021 was 335,000.

Romania needs urgent measures to increase the birth rate and support families with children.

Irina Granzulea, president of the Large Families Association Romania , told PRO TV News channel:

“From the moment you find out you are pregnant, the costs start to rise, because there are medical checks that are innumerable and there are costs for the mother. The child itself, in the first years of life, the costs of raising the child are at least double the costs for the maintenance of some preschool and school chidren , is dependent and you have to buy a lot of things.”
