Spanish Federation of Large Families advocates for families at recent European Commission session

FEFN asks the European Commission in Spain to take into account the family size and needs of large families in all public policies.

The Spanish Federation of Large Families (FEFN) has asked the European Commission in Spain that all public policies take into account the family size, recognizing each and every one of the children, to end the discrimination currently suffered by large families, in particular those with 4 or more children, in access to aid as many only take into account up to the third child when setting income limits.

Session of the European Commission in Spain

The FEFN asks that all children be taken into account, increasing the income thresholds according to the number of children, without limit, from the first to the last. The Federation emphasizes to the Commission that all children have needs for food, education, etc., and families with more children should be eligible for assistance on equal terms.

In the same vein, the FEFN requested that the size and needs of large families be considered in relation to one of the main concerns of Spanish society, housing, and to this end it is necessary, according to the FEFN, that in the State Housing Plan the income thresholds for eligibility for aid be increased and that rents be limited, also considering that there should be larger housing for these families.

The FEFN participated in a working session at the headquarters of the European Commission in Spain, where it was invited with other social entities of childhood and family, to present proposals on family policy, highlighting the need to establish a universal benefit per child, as it exists in much of Europe.

The FEFN reminded the representatives of the European Commission in Spain of the important deficit that this country has in investment in family and that it is urgent to favor convergence with Europe in a fundamental issue for the development of society, such as the protection of children within families. To this end, it is essential, explained the FEFN, to provide economic benefits that reach all families and promote equal opportunities for all children in access to goods and services.
